I was expecting mine to have 400+ miles on it. It had four!

This suggests that the Nissan Rogue is worth buying.

Counterpoint: I just fulfilled my Jalop duties by purchasing a new [check], manual [check] Miata [check].

No, we just need to put male models in those Victoria’s Secret Wonder Bras, too.... Obviously.

So this is how some German cars don’t leak oil.

Good write-up. But I don’t believe you. I know I’m just mechanically inclined enough to get all of this taken apart before I break something that needs to be ordered from Italy... that will arrive in 4-6 weeks... and cost $800.

...happiest surrounded by mountains of white powder.

It’s just me and the wife (and our dog and cat, but the cat doesn’t go anywhere and the dog is only 9 lbs).

Wow... That may be worse than the gal trying to get into a white Mustang. Even color blind people know red (gray) isn’t black. And an Avalon ain’t no XJ.

I thought they came with a CVT, making them definitely-not the best road car.

I don’t feel too bad for most of these folks. Those who used the car up more than the mileage allowance VW offered had a good run. Those who still have some of the ‘free’ miles left have over a year to keep it before turning it in for a big check.

Yep, and I have seen it first hand a few times. One time, it happened to me on a big new-car deal and I caught it before the package was even completed (but the ink was dry and customer gone). I went ape shit and walked my manager in to the finance office to confront the finance manager who tried justifying it as me

And you should be suspicious.

I’ve worked at places that paid flat spiffs (ex: $25/product) for laying the groundwork for back-end products. If you’re on a mini/flat, you don’t care what happens to the front-end and it doesn’t affect you.

This is possible, but the reality is not nearly so black/white. The salesperson could be at a mini with a little bit of front-end margin left. The salesperson could be on a flat fee pay plan. The salesperson could earn a higher percentage of the back-end than the front end, therefor earning more on any amount moved

True, there are some stores that have the salesperson structure their own deals, but they are usually smaller places with a tight group of seasoned salespeople. There are way more places that have a revolving door of new, clueless salespeople every quarter.

Was it the salesman or finance manager selling it? Usually, the salesman gets nothing or only a small spiff on back-end products, but the finance manager get’s paid a larger commission on that stuff.

Exactly.

Oh, we have plenty of potholes here, too.

Huh- Can’t wash your car due to icy conditions, and high-shoolers work at car washes... I’m learning so much about non-western states. In California, ice is only found in your freezer and migrant workers are the guys hustling to clean the row of rust-free cars any day it isn’t raining.
