Northeast, our school year typically runs around Labor Day to mid/late June. 

I’ve never worked in a public school district with the option to get paid over 12 months. My sister’s district has a special program in which they withhold some pay each month and hold it until the summer, but afaik it’s not all that common.

Summer is 2 months, which are unpaid, whether or not one has a child.
