Forcing these folks into the dark and feeding their resentment will almost certainly not backfire into incredibly high levels of violence.

“Damore dismissed the notion, blaming it on a liberal culture at tech companies.”
Where there is no sense, there is no feeling.
If you were wondering, the probability of HRC being a good president is a number indistinguishable from zero.
Obviously they can’t say, “We fired him for being a conservative.”
These generalizations are, largely, backed by scientific studies. Questions remain about the full impact of these differences, but a generalization is not, in itself, irrational or fallacious.
What he said was both constructive and rational. These terms don’t imply that what he had to say was correct but that’s the point of having a discussion.
It is difficult to measure the bullshit in this comment. It is also difficult to imagine anyone on the left being willing to allow a corporation to smash through a workers rights in employment. But then again, so called liberals care very little about workers when a companies brand is at issue.
Have you read the document? He neither claims Google should get rid of diversity programs nor did he “promote the idea the woman engineers weren’t as capable”. He said that diversity programs currently constructed did not consider that there might be fewer woman engineers for reasons other than misogyny or oppression.…
(1) As we seem to be arguing past one another, I just say this: The memo is not claiming that the world can be classified as being made up of good intelligent people and bad unintelligent people. You are consistently applying a moral category (“one of the good ones”) that the author does not use or even imply.
Again, no one is saying “You are one of the good ones”. This assumes that the author was placing moral value on people based on things like gender. But there is nothing like this in the memo. He simply saying that there are statistical differences that mean that Google should not define its hiring practices on equal…
But we only come into contact with individuals. It would be easy to assume that if you are working for Google then you are outside the average range for IQ regardless of how you construct the group.
(1) That is not what is happening here. Damore did say anyone was subhuman nor did he claim that his co-workers had subhuman Intelligence. As you are not alone in this kind of hyperbole, I wonder what the mechanism that causes jumping to such an extreme misreading is.
There is something deeply comical that people of the supposed ‘left’ would so readily side with a corporation in its branding efforts over the rights of a worker. You have to see that this is ultimately closer to the alt-right anti-democracy movement than the author of the memo. I’m guessing you will miss it on your…
Did the author advocate for genocide or white purity?
What he said was not comparable to Nazis or Southern segregationists. He threatened violence to no one. He oppressed no one. We have to be able to make rational distinctions between opinions on the right and violent threats from the far right.
Sadly, the conservatives are right. When the expressing an opinion in a calm and reasoned tone is enough to cause a “hostile work environment” then the left are confirming the paranoid fantasies of the right.
I’m sure firing someone because they have a difference of opinion will solve the problem of a hostile work environment.
Slowdive is the best showgazer band. Lush is in the top 3 however.
People are stupid. This is not news.
