I predicted Zobrist WS MVP at the beginning of the playoffs. It’s in writing and everything! This is basically the smartest I’ve seemed all year.

The first thing I said was “huh, was this wagon supposed to bounce around with nobody saying anything? Oh, nope, that’s a glitch. Let’s try restarting...”
I disagree — it’s novel and a great experience. It makes every decision more consequential and every victory a little sweeter. I wouldn’t want every board game to be this way, but I’m glad a few are. And besides, you can still use the game board for regular Pandemic when you’re done; it’s not like it combusts when you…
I’ve heard Imperial Assault is also a campaign-based game, but I’ve never played it. Or you could go all the way back to Heroquest, if you can find a copy!
That is... not our experience. We’re through October also, and by “through” I mean “lost both games for the first time.” We’re really nervous that Box 8 may be in our near future. Friends who are a month behind are feeling the same way.
Evidence that it was a humiliation conga:
I didn’t hear about the Jew-S-A chanter. It’s amazing the number of things that are happening that don’t even register. Like, the Republican nominee appeared in multiple pornographic films, and pressured his fiancee to pose for Playboy—and it basically wasn’t a news story.
But how close we came!
Great analysis. For me the biggest turnoff (after 100+ hours of Skyrim, several playthroughs of FO3, and a run of FO:NV and Oblivion) is that the main character in Bethesda games invariably has no character. I’ve tried to play them as a character with consistent motivations and goals and personality, and it’s usually…
I don’t know if it would hold up, but I’m certainly curious to see whether it would. How would I play differently? Would it stress me out? I really have no idea, and I hope that a good version of these games gets made so I find out. But given how little money you can make off a game like this, I’d be surprised if a…
And people who like the idea will support it, while people who don’t like it won’t. It’s not like they’re pulling a bait and switch where they’re raising money and then telling people it’s perma-permadeath. I’d be curious to see how it felt to play a game with the stakes that high - maybe curious enough to pay some…
You can go back tomorrow and play another video game. Just not this particular video game. Seems like a pretty good analogy to me!
Right? I’m so confused by the hate for this idea. I’m really curious how I would play a game if I knew that I could never try it again if I screwed up. How safe would I play it? Would it be stressful or just zen? Most things in life are this way (when you screw up a relationship badly enough, you don’t usually get to…
It’s a bit different. Rightly or wrongly, we treat athletes as public figures and role models. Maybe because we take our kids to watch them perform, we wear their jerseys, etc. If we’re cheering for stalkers or the like, we want to know about it. Nobody looks at sportswriters that way.
Holy crap, Carr’s hit piece on her is despicable. How is “sportswriter accused of harassing phone calls to ex” news? What are those blind quotes other than anonymous character assassination? That’s astonishing.
Thank you for writing such a rich and human piece. She was wrong that there’s no story here — it’s a story that doesn’t get told in this kind of detail nearly enough.
How’s the city state system? Or did they drop it? That’s the one thing that turned me off to Civ V - it frequently felt like a principality-bribing simulator.
Sounds like he doesn’t need much help with the key words. There are three buttons for them!
