The cover, in which we are invited to join Lorde in putting our heads up her ass, appears indicative of the content within.

It’s worth noting that hate speech in Canada is defined fairly strictly, and (so far civil, not criminal) judgements have reflected that. In practice, the only people exposed will be those who vilify protected classes and call for their removal from the country, violence against them, etc...

this law isn’t restricting speech. hate speech has always been illegal in canada. all this law does is expand it’s reach to the internet, where white supremacy is running rampant.

I saw Radiohead once during the tour for Hail to the Thief and once more shortly after they released In Rainbows, and I was shocked and entertained both by how much they continually played with the format of their songs such that they sounded nothing like the album version, and by how little Thom Yorke gave a fuck

Watching him prance around like Axl Rose in 1988 was one of the most shockingly awesome things I’ve ever seen live.

Thom Yorke says, “Challenge accepted!”

Canada’s Attorney General David Lametti assured Canadians that the proposed law would not target “simple expressions of dislike or disdain” during a virtual press conference on Wednesday that was livestreamed...

It’s admirable they’re taking action on actual public problems rather than the southernmost province (aka USA) but I think exempting platforms from any liability is a mistake. Platforms are profiting from this hate, they should habe to invest in solutions not just shift all risk and blame to haters.

This is true, and it’s clear she was absolutely looking for attention and trying to be an edgelord because she thinks that makes her interesting and relatable. But in the case of Courtney it doesn’t hold up. She didn’t just tweet at them publicly. Chrissy DM’d them privately, multiple times. And she keeps glossing

I was (and still am) a massive fan of the first album. Melodrama had some ok tracks but I think I listened to it 2 or 3 times and never went back. This... is so boring. I didn’t even see the video, I first heard the track on spotify, and immediately thought of hippies and that time period when driving vans to the

IDK, if you’re starting to ask if something is so bad that it must be an intentional joke it’s actually just bad.

This......is not a good song. I’m sorry, but that’s just how I feel about it. I don’t really know what Lorde is trying to do with this, it’s just such a radical departure into the mundane and boring. I don’t have high hopes for the rest of the album after this.

So catchy, so utterly tone-deaf. This is going to be the summer soundtrack for the smuggest people you know.

This made me think of a random Korean celeb discussion thread I perused last year, long story short this company was crafting beautiful “modern” versions of Korean traditional dress, hanbok, and a bunch of white girls debated then decided they could not possibly buy or wear the stuff because cultural appropriation.

Thank you.

I can’t help but wonder if any of the women received compensation for their stage names being used as Stefani’s album title

At some point we’re going to start yelling at white people cosplaying as anime characters at conventions for insufficient woke-ness, aren’t we?

Honestly, I am shocked. I always had an image of Bill Gates as a harmless Mr. Rogers type who just happened to also be a billionaire tycoon. Family man who made his riches and didn’t divorce in favor of a trophy wife (*cough, Bezos, cough*). Guess he was just the prototype tech bro all this time, and that’s sad.

“You’re measuring degrees of genocide”

to be fair the exact same problem could occur if you’re talking about two people of the same gender at the same time.
