Me too. I have nothing against that family living the way they want to live, but the show is just voluntary exploitation and the fact that people watch it only makes things worse.

Yeah, there was some heavy-duty dissonance there. They're all like, she literally starved herself by eating nearly nothing — but hey, look at how amazing it made her look! So let's all forget about that starvation part.

Not only that, but her accent was horrible. It seriously made me cringe throughout the entire movie. I think she would have been better off pulling a Kevin-Costner-in-Robin-Hood deal.

I totally agree with the principle of what the Smiths are saying. But on a practical level, I think parents have the right to set some limits. My parents flat-out said that as long as they were paying for the salon, I couldn't get any high-maintenance hairstyle or colour — they didn't allow themselves that kind of

See, I read that more as "It's an insiduous type of sexual harassment/abuse that unfortunately happens a lot but is still totally wrong." Not as an excuse for why it should be OK. But maybe I'm too optimistic.

Exactly. And suggesting we should feel bad for Berry because she only wanted the kid and not the dad is all sorts of wrong. If she had just wanted a kid, she could've gone to a sperm bank. Nahla is just as much Aubry's child as hers.

Except we all know how that turned out.

Thanks for this. I'm French Canadian and we certainly don't think of our language as bastardized. It's evolved in a different way that France's French has, for sure, but that doesn't make it any less valid.

Pffft. Gambit loves Rogue, not Storm.

Libels laws — assuming that's what you're referring to — can be tricky. But even if it's not always illegal, it certainly opens the door to a lawsuit.

There must be a way to tweak libel laws so that TMZ (and similar media) becomes all but illegal. Or at least so boring that no one pays them any attention.

I think it's fair to publish charges - they're public record and the accused will have a chance to defend him or herself at trial. However, I agree that publishing criminal accusations that have not led to charges is irresponsible because the accused has no recourse to clear their name (and it often means there isn't

I get that. But the comment you replied to referred to Berry's boyfriend, who isn't Aubry but an entirely separate man. That's all I was clarifying. You're totally right about Aubry's objection to the move.

You're confusing two different people. The kid's dad is Canadian, Berry's boyfriend is French. So the theory is that Berry wants to move to France to be with her boyfriend, which incidentally takes her daughter far, far from the girl's father.

I can deal with a "mad" revival, but "wack" needs to stay dead for all eternity.

Actually, it does. Someone who doesn't want to be there doesn't exactly project a welcoming atmosphere for the people they're trying to help — people who often need a safe space where they won't feel judged.

Sure, but motivation isn't clear cut. People who volunteer or donate normally do want to help, even though they may also have other, less pure reasons (such as appeasing their guilt or impressing their friends). As long as there's some measure of genuine kindness in there, I'm cool with it.

I can't speak for folks in the Pacific Northwest or Milwaukee area, but the Bernardo case is still a pretty raw topic in Canada, possibly because both he and Karla are still alive and making the news every so often. Even among reporters, I can't recall ever hearing a Bernardo joke — and we joke about pretty dark and

That's a real slippery slope, there. Think of all the other irresponsible behaviour that may require medical intervention: bike accidents, anything related to smoking, STDs, all sorts of sports injuries, alcohol poisoning... the list goes on. Are you saying none of these should be covered by the school's health

I read it more as, an abortion means an unwanted pregnancy, which is never fun for anyone. Not necessarily a difficult decision or a moral dilemma, just a really stressful situation.
