This is really interesting. Exiting systems (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo, until now) use geosynchronous satellites. This makes sense, as the satellites appear fixed in the sky from the ground. Very useful for navigation markers to be stationary!

A quick google suggests that modern tires are 60/40 synthetic (petroleum-based)/natural (latex?) rubber. I would hope that they’re replacing the synthetic 60% with this material, not the natural rubber. But I don’t know.
