Well, JunkerDave blew my mind by telling us that his 2015 Kia doesn’t have an immobilizer, and the manual backs him up. No wonder these things are stolen left and right!

While I’m sure this works fine, what you say isn’t strictly true. The internal angles of the corners of 12 point sockets are 60°. The outside angles of the square drive of a tap are obviously 90°.
There’s a reason that a tap and a thread chaser are different things.
