Yes “he” didn’t. But the notion that people should just “not hook up with colleagues” is not based in reality. HR normally has set rules for this.

You do not choose who you’re attracted to. Rules are there to protect everyone involved but if you and your sub are both “consenting” adults then there shouldn’t be an issue. There also shouldn’t be an issue if you get fired for it “if it is against company policy”. You know the risks.

Should they be paid? It depends. On one side it is “voluntary” so expecting pay is not the goal. But on the other side (as was the case with AOL), if the forum makes them keep to schedules and put in a certain amount of hours, then they’re being treated as employees and should be compensated as such.
