That’s not a twist. It’s a casting decision for a new character. A twist might have been recasting the old character with an African-American woman.

This “Kelvin Timeline” can’t be split off from the main timeline. It must be split off from another alternate timeline from the main timeline. This is the only way to solve the numerous continuity errors that crop up in the Kelvin Timeline that would not be explained by Nero going back in time and changing things.

I would think this would translate even better to movie cars, where you can now have rare/expensive/completely-fictional cars without destroying the original. Many times a movie car is a bit of a fiction anyway, so why not make it even more flexible.

With insects, the general rule is that if you don’t understand why a bug does a particular thing, check the chemistry. Insects have very basic brains, and respond in a very reliable fashion to pheromones and other scents. All the butterfly would have to do is to make these eggs smell like that species of ant’s eggs,…
