I don't think my mom every told me not to be feminine, or even what "being feminine" means. In fact, the main message I had growing up was that my gender didn't matter and I could do whatever I wanted to do in life.

Did anyone else *really* want a film adaptation of Tamora Pierce's books? (Such as the Alanna books—about a girl who dressed up as a boy because she wanted to be a knight!)
@stephcorinn: Also Lars and the Real Girl was excellent.
@The Queen of No: Well, some neurotic brains slow down during sex... :(
@Love Monkey: It was a double degree
@Amy Schultz: I sort of doubt foot doctors would recommend *anyone* wearing shoes like that!
I haven't read the study, but I wonder if these results vary at all depending on the field? I'd think that in certain fields (traditionally male-dominated, such as academia, engineering/tech, etc.) women wouldn't be as negatively evaluated for exhibiting "masculine" professional behavior.
@TopLevelExecutive: So, "traditionally attractive" = WASPy?
I also heard there was a musical version of the Diary of Anne Frank performed in Spain...thought that was a little strange.
@Ipomoea: Me too! At the end of OWL (our whole lives), we exchanged "erotic gifts" (I brought scented candles) and watched American Pie! Ah, the 90s.
@rhymeswithfeather: So, I don't know the details—But I have a Cuban-American friend and she's said that she is allowed to go visit family every couple of years or so..
Maybe it's just me, but I firmly believe in having respectful discussions with people who I disagree with—even if I'm not sure if they will respect my views.
@shananigans: I mean, honestly how much does any TV show ever (about college/high school) show the characters in classes a lot?
@Pega Corn: Methinks the Morrison doth protest too much.
Clive Owen, now and forever.
@keldo: Well at least that was in private!
@FrostyTempleton: Well, back in my day (I'm from Oregon, graduated in '05..) my parents chaperoned a dance and wore buttons they made that read: "Ask me about sexual gyrating!" Heh.
@onewanderingsoul: LOL-This reads like it could be a mad lib.
Okay, so I've had pretty good luck on OKC (although I disabled my account recently)...But this story relates to a guy I just chatted with, but never met. Because he sketched me out a bit.
@sissylarue: Um, America has Muslim mayors as well...
