All I have to say is...this presentation breaks one of the cardinal rules of power point: Too much text!

@Eric Northman is mine: I got the sense that William, as the "man of the family" in lieu of his father, would always have final say in decisions like that...so the only way Betty could get what she wanted was to go through her husband.

@JudastheObscurest: Yeah, seriously. I feel like a lot of these "slice of life" snap judgments seem to tend that way.

Bad lyrics: Frank Sinatra "Wives and Lovers"

@Blackagar Boltigon: I haven't read it, but I read "A Midwife's Tale" for a class this term and I loved it, she is an amazing historian. She unearthed and analyzed a diary of a 18th century midwife in rural Maine, and the book deals with gender, the professionalization of medicine, the "hidden economy" of women, etc.

@Blackagar Boltigon: It is the title of a book by historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich (author of "A Midwife's Tale"). Yeah, the statement is usually used in a different way, but the original intent of it was to critique history, how it made "well-behaved" women invisible, instead only glorifying the outliers.

Strangely enough, when I got back home (to Portland) after spending the summer in Israel, I was pretty weirded out at how overly concerned with politeness everyone was back here. Haha, I think one of the first words I learned there was how to say "excuse me."

Given the picture, the whole "fondle her to stop the violent fighting" scenario oddly reminds me of that certain scene in Mad Men (with Don and Bobbi Barrett). Hmmm.

@MockMyWorld: LOL. Yeah, I was going to say, those girls might wish him dead...

@Rosaxe: Yeah, I think also "mining" was probably not the best verb there..

putting on clothes right out of the dryer, dark chocolate, a good book, the beach, making progress on a project.

@Merkin: Well now that many newspapers are going out of business and going online...I say fret away.

I think by "colonial world," they meant that the outfit somewhat resembled British colonial-era uniforms. But, still, pretty offensive and badly worded. Some of the clothes are cool though.

I didn't think "moderate Islamic dress" = burqas?

@Ionic: Yeah, I don't think anything will melt my cold tiny heart tho :P

@pezsyzygy: actually I think it was much earlier than high school, oops.

Haha, in high school we did an "Ellis Island" simulation. My character was a Jewish anarchist with TB, so I was denied entry to the US for health reasons. *sadface*

@pezsyzygy: Sorry to say therefore a few too many times, its early and went all academic...

@wembles: This post relates to my honors thesis too..what's yours on?
