Ugh, that's awful! I'm so sorry that happened to you :(

I totally understand where you're coming from in terms of protecting yourself, because that's what I do as well. I don't go out alone at night, I dress conservatively, I even avoid speaking while I'm out because my Kiwi accent tends to draw a lot of attention. I'm really glad to hear that these steps have kept you…
That's the whole point though, the whole "well it sucks but that's just now it is" attitude is a CRAP attitude and really needs to change.
That's what I struggle with as well! Even when I'm in a salwar kameez, it's like I have a huge tattoo on my forehead saying NOT FROM INDIA. It's freaky!
The divide is definitely there, but I don't think I've spent enough time in the South to figure out why it's so different!
I'm from Mumbai, and visit often. Delhi is very different (a lot worse for women). It's always been bad, but the Western media is just picking up on it now.
As a a born (and sort of raised) Indian woman, I find these sorts of stories so disheartening. I just spent a week in New Delhi, where it was 45 degrees centigrade. I was relatively covered up, but got leered at by men CONSTANTLY.
Kiwi here, and I've obviously heard of it. I even auditioned for it! Gonna head over to Hulu now and check it out :) Haven't watched it in YEARS!!!
Be still my beating heart!
PERFECTION
Ahhh that's amazing. I would love to get to that stage!!!
Oh. Dear. Lord.
Where did you find this? I'm staring, transfixed. I might need to slap myself before I'll be able to look away.
Y!!!
Mmmm, Navajo spaghetti - only $35!
So many of my precious brain cells gave their lives so that I could try and figure out why this "study" exists... I still cannot comprehend it, and I've forgotten how to tie my shoelaces.
I did that same bark! I've been moping around the house complaining about having the flu - I am now officially shutting up about my gripes forever.
