I can't wait till Renntech or Weistec get their hands on one and see how far they can push the engine in terms of hp/torque. They managed to get the M157 Biturbo to 833 HP @ 5500 RPM; 980 LB-FT @ 3800 RPM with only software, downpipes and revised ecu. I'd bet this engine can handle similar figures, absolutely mental.

The upkeep is not much, so far the E55 has had less in service than my S500. It will likely need motor mounts and transmission mounts at this KM. broke one in half. Very easy to work on as well.

They are very reliable, mine has never had any problems. The engines a very stout provided you don't let any idiot "tune" it. Yes there is potential for the suspension to go wrong, I have addressed this by replacing all the airmatic struts and compressor which was roughly about 3k. Other than that, its been perfect

Isn't this approaching the price of the Mulsanne?

supra TRD body kit ftw.

IS300 2jz gte swap so you can choo choo. I'd love to turbo an nsx to piss people off. (Flame suit on)

Most problems with ABC suspension result from neglect, as a W220 owner, regular maintenance is the most important thing along with fixing issues when they first appear. You are correct in terms of years 2000 to 2002. They must be avoided.

Its a good way to start working on cars, theres tons of information on the M5 boards on DIY's etc. This is how i started, no background in anything automotive, just a hobby and wanting to learn. For example, on my W211 E55, the car went into limp mode with the transmission not willing to engage anything higher than

Isn't the S85 manufactured using alusil which aftermarket pistons an issue or is there coatings which are compatible? In terms of Mercedes (my experience) people rebuild their M113k engines which used Alusil. with pistons which were incompatible and resulted in a ruined motor, unless the pistons were Mahle, Weistec or

OMG, i also have an S500. Mine is 05 , approaching 243,xxx Kilometers. Purchased at 83,000 Km. Has never left me stranded. I only wish for the wooden steering wheel, makes all the difference. My only major expense was when some idiots stole my lower front, passenger, driver side appearance package grills. Coming back to

i TOTALLY agree.

"u should go write advice columns for The Onion". Why do you feel the need to personally attack someone? I wonder if this the same service you provide people who permit you to work on their vehicles. What exactly are you trying to accomplish, not only that, it reflects your character... I will let others decide from

How can you causally relate the K&N sticker to how the vehicle was maintained/driven? Also, these vehicles are engineered to be driven at the limit and are designed as such. Any modifications which are distasteful can be removed(not saying i like them). In terms of reliability of the C63, the main problem were a few

In terms of the E39 you are right, but the E60 is a different story. The V10 has a significantly higher redline, and many of the engine failures which have occurred is the result of the engine seizing. I would take rod bearing replacement over a rebuild/used motor cost wise with this car. If you look at high mileage

Now playing

the S65 V8 M3 and S85 V10 all suffer from rod bearing problems, its simply a matter of time. Proper maintenance will help, however, once the engines reach high mileage, they will need it. Here is an explanation. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O90RAr…)

Its buyer beware. I quite enjoy these articles, in terms of repair, any high performance vehicle is going to need to be taken care of. If maintenance is performed on time and rod bearings etc is replaced as a preventative measure, why would it need a 20k engine repair? Rather than scaring people with 20K engine

A common problem with the S85 engine is at higher mileage, it requires the rod bearings to be replaced. Would be something to keep in mind for anyone looking at these cars with such high mileage. http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60-…
