It was 9 minutes, so it did slog a bit.

Funnily enough he even had a cameo on SNL  during his 2000 campaign. That was the last time.

There’s also  no real way the country is  ever going back to the quasi-quasi-togetherness of  March 2020. Most places aren’t going to shut down and a lot of  people aren’t going to care about masks or precautions. We’ll  just have to get through as best we can.

I get the mask-wearing more when they are around a large group of people (as the goodnights usually have dozens of people). With just 5 people, it stood out more, but I guess they didn’t want to seem even more negligent.

For some reason SNL has never been interested in airing a lot of their cut pieces - that’s one of the reasons I’m glad some at least show up on Youtube now. There were several they could have put on this time, but I guess they wanted to stick to Christmas only.

My favorite part of this episode was the goodnights, not just for the oddity of only five people on the stage, unwinding as best they could, but for the incredibly poignant sight of Lenny Pickett and Tuffus Zimbabwe playing viewers out of an uncertain 2021 and into an uncertain 2022. The band has not been showcased

Supposedly Kate  won’t be there either.

I guess they were not prepared in time to do at home material - I feel like a lot of people have not taken the new variant seriously because of COVID fatigue. I am interested in seeing just what they put on the air if this happens (I’m still doubting it will actually happen - I think we’ll just get a rerun), but

I’d guess he’s seen how popular the Seth Meyers segments are or they assume this makes them seem relateable (especially since CNN loves to have the drunk New Year segments for their anchors). It feels like a late night version of the whole “wine mom” thing. I don’t have a Puritan response to it, but any time I see

At the time of the original show I never quite felt like the show had a great deal of use for the Steve/Miranda relationship  - it’s just that the actors  worked very well together and it was an easy out because they didn’t ever know what to do with Miranda anyway. I’m not surprised if they dismantle the relationship

I was just piggybacking on your comment because I did hear the fewer = better stuff for years. I know you weren’t saying it.

For some reason I kept being distracted whenever Darren Criss popped in. I suppose it’s the oddity of him paired up with Fred Armisen.

I used to hear this a lot with the Doctor Who revival - that the show was better because of fewer episodes. I never really believed that, and as episodes of the revival become fewer and fewer, the praise seems to become more and more scant. There’s something to be said for shows that give you more variety, more

Some shows in the ‘80s did, and some, like  Knots Landing,  made it work. But it’s extremely difficult.

Will Forte is one of my favorite SNL cast members of all time, but I never had a great deal of interest in Macgruber (I think the ones I enjoyed most were the blatant commercialization parody commercials he did with Richard Dean Anderson for the Super Bowl). This doesn’t exactly change my mind.

Yes, The Nanny and Mad TV are the first places I saw these Claymation revivals.

In one episode didn’t Ted basically say he supports Planned Parenthood?

I used to watch things like The Gossip Show at the time and he was absolutely sneered at by many wags - oh, who does he think he is, turning down a sure hit sequel and a big payday? They really wanted to tear him down. When the film flopped they looked like idiots.

The kids are so drawn to the idea of Logan as the center of everything that they have never been able to form any genuine relationships. Roman is the one who probably  tries the most, but these are usually really screwed up quasi-incestuous bonds with people who are using him (like that fascist ATN is backing for

The backlash that the Garfield movies got, especially the “Why are we doing this again? Why do we need to see Uncle Ben die yet again?” critiques, seem to have stuck  in how they have  not kept the  character in larger settings ever since.
