It’s usually about framing and code words - he didn’t run on that but the judges he nominated had the social conservative bonafides he would not say out loud. They may not explicitly say what the legislation will be for, but the end result will be the same .

That’s already been set up through the courts. Legislation is just a means to an end, as shown in Texas. All they have to do is mask it in “CRT” and “protecting children from woke thought police” and it won’t take much effort at all. The social agenda will just be slipped under the radar, as the media is too focused

5 years is generous. Unless something changes, by early 2024 most states that aren’t reliably blue will have passed these types of laws. And blue states that have easy ballot access will have them put onto  the ballot  to help Republicans in the 2024  races.

I doubt they’ll get that much good press for this decision - these days half the coverage will be that Marvel “went woke and got broke” on “the gay agenda” and the other half will be accusing Disney of “pinkwashing” and focusing on “white gays” (even though the character is not white) and “identity politics.” I’m sure

Any director or franchise having fanboys is pretty much a road to hell. Fanboying and anti-fanboying is one of the reason MCU discourse is so tedious, because liking or disliking a movie now makes you a martyr for the ages.

Given that we have had 50000000000000 articles just like this over the last decade, I’d say the answer is because - financially, it works. And until that changes (which could be now, for all we know),  they won’t stop.

Given that many were happy to throw criticisms at Nomadland, especially as awards season rolled along, it all feels a bit like they just don’t care for the MCU and its effect on cinema at large, and are mostly using her as a weapon.

As soon as the trailer made sure to emphasize the scene where she said someone was going to kill her, you knew what this movie was likely to be. If we continue to get thinkpieces on Diana then maybe we should get some on how these “sympathetic” movies and shows are just as happy to exploit her name and image for a

So much of Hollywood is fake, as so much of life is fake, but the friendships between many in the Bosom Buddies cast always seemed movingly real. I remember when Tom helped Wendie Jo Sperber in her last years as she battled cancer.

I thought the original was Billy then later on they had a soundalike. The version I often heard in syndication was a Stephanie Mills song - “Shake Me Loose.” It’s also great, much better than the soundalike.

I tend to agree with your Voulez Vous picks, especially If It Wasn’t For The Nights (talk about an earworm). My other picks:

I think the Mamma Mia! movies are pretty much fine as distillations of ABBA, juekbox musicals that don’t try to be anything else. I actually prefer the second to the first as that digs more into the lesser known ABBA hits (which tend to be my favorites from them) and I preferred Lily James’ more nuanced take to the

These are the types of hosts I think have the most potential as they aren’t coming in with huge expectations, yet they also aren’t seen as being so out of their depth that managing to deliver lines is seen as a feat. Simu in particular I could see being a lot of fun, if the show makes the effort. Majors was very

Yeah, Short said in a recent interview he and Steve would more likely cameo and Selena would host. Still, they’d probably be like three hosts.

Elizabeth Olsen has said she won’t host because of her nerves. Short has said this is actually what the three of them want to do, but SNL is heavily booked so they don’t know when it will happen.

I’ll be happy to see him in another project but some part of me also just wants him to stay safe and just, I don’t know, tour his local department store (then again that would probably be more dangerous these days).

Schitt’s Creek really tapped into a side of Eugene’s talents that I feel like a lot of his work rarely has (a little in Waiting for Guffman) - beyond the goofiness and awkwardness, there’s a sincerity and heart. The show was at its best when they dialed back the characters who existed just  to ridicule Johnny and

If it was Ted Cruz he would have sent out another tweet telling everyone he really doesn’t care about how mean they are to him, he really really doesn’t.

At the time I thought they were very screamy and one-note, with a few exceptions like Ana Gasteyer and Tim Meadows. In recent rewatches I’m more at peace with them (still not that into Kattan though).

I’ve mellowed on  her over the years, but at the time she annoyed the hell out of me. I think it’s how labored the whole thing is,  especially the TV-movie mention. The rigid  formula is one of the reasons I don’t miss recurring characters on  SNL.
