I’ll start with this caveat:

You are getting “impeachment” mixed up with “conviction”.  The House impeaches; the senate holds the trial and votes for conviction and the sentence (i.e. removal from office or censure).  So yeah, he will be impeached in the House but not convicted in the senate, because you need 2/3 majority in the senate to vote…

And I’m convinced that support for Trump’s removal from office will grow.  But even if it doesn’t; standing up for principle is necessary or the democratic party will be seen as feckless and weak.

Those polls are kind of meaningless until we actually have a nominee.  Most Americans don’t really know the nominees well enough to form an opinion one way or another.  Polls in the general election are what matter.
