I've come to actively despise the medical community. Honestly, I think anyone with a chronic condition ends up feeling that way. There are a few good ones, but the overwhelming majority of doctors are just horrible. It's like they forget that their patients are human beings, just like he or she is.

I've been told by a doctor that he wouldn't continue to care for me unless I had a gastric bypass (I am approximately 75 pounds overweight). I've been told by three different doctors that my horrible shooting hip pain was just from my weight and if I just lost 10% of my weight it would fix it. I lost about 25 pounds

How is providing quality medical care to an obese person encouraging obesity?

Goodness no, he looks like he's won the lottery in every shot. * wink *

Wow, if I was not already married I think I would begin wooing that photographer immediately, regardless of gender.

I was really really hoping that they would have put it all on its head and used one of the Enterprise story lines where they explain how Klingons lost their ridges and made a connection between the 'Super Men' and the Soong family. It would have made me very happy if there had been a Soong between Arik and Noonian. Oh

Spoilers for non-book readers. I wonder if it's that Dorne was a major player in how Jon Snow came to be. The Tower of Joy has some 'splainin to do.

The babe with the power ...

Oh golly I wish I'd known sooner ... I'm going to try to rearrange my calendar, I really want to be there!

Once he pointed it out I started watching people and it has held together from a completely non-scientific, totally subjective point of view. Which is not to say that men don't protect their children, of course, simply that when faced with perceived danger I've noticed men focus on their wives first and then their

I tend to stick just to io9 for my geek news so I haven't seen too much of that. We're a pretty civil bunch, overall. Irrational fan hatred freaks me out. While I didn't agree with Ms. Anders's take on Into Darkness, I sure did respect how well reasoned and thoughtful her review was.

That is very true. I think that's probably one of the major reasons for the gap, honestly. I think they go together, though. If you don't have the respect you'll be laughed at when you ask for more money.

I completely understand, I hate it when things pull me out of the experience. And you're right, those were both rather perplexing (as well as easy to deal with in the script if they'd bothered). Maybe I'm just so starved for Trek I'll take what I can get.

As a woman working in SF I can say that I have felt much more valued and respected working here than in Washington, D.C. Having my voice listened to is much more important to me than money. The money will follow the respect.

My husband's theory is that men are hard-wired to save the women and women are hard-wired to save the children. It makes a certain amount of sense, if the goal is the species survives.

That's the part the perplexes me, Trek has always had plot holes you could fly a shuttle through. At least that's how it seemed to me. I feel like everyone else must have been watching different versions of these shows, because they were cheesy as hell and full of plotting issues. So I rather love the way J.J. et al

I've been trying to find something to explain it because of being at odds with most of fandom. It was what we came up with at 2 a.m. one night. I'm completely perplexed as to why I enjoyed it just as much as the first while most other fans do not. My other theory is that it is emotionally true to Trek while failing at

Why would anyone do that to their friend?! If they enjoyed something why would you take that away from them? Unless it's Episode 1, that's totally different.

I would say if 'your' trek is TNG or later and TOS didn't speak to you as much you'll probably enjoy it. My spouse and I have determined that this is the line between us on Into Darkness.

My hope is that something like the Watson study will grow into something that will help doctors mitigate their bias to improve diagnosis. For example, in the US women and overweight people often receive substandard care because doctors tend to dismiss their complaints. So, ideally it would help doctors be better
