I wonder about this. Did you see the news item that was bouncing about recently about IBM applying Watson (I think that's the wizbang super computer that did this) to diagnosing patients and finding that it was significantly more accurate than the doctors? While I don't think medicine will be replaced, I do think the

I work in fundraising for an institution that helps children who have been severely abused/neglected and need residential care. While I certainly hope that my job will no longer be needed, I can't really see how that would be possible. So long as capitalism holds sway in the western world my job will continue to be

Ms. Anders, I realize that this is an extremely spoiled request to make, but it would be so wonderful if you included where one can go to find these shows (Netflix, Hulu etc.) I will happily Google of course, but if where to watch was part of your original research it would be a handy addition to a fun article.

I support you in this liking of J.J. Abrams.

We watched it last night with our 11-year old, hearing his take on it was fascinating. I thought he would complain about the silly effects and the laughable fight scenes, but instead he completely zoned in on how women were portrayed. Apparently that was the most glaring difference to him. He said, regarding McGivers,

Fair enough. But her hair still makes no sense.

But how does it lay down like that? Does she cut it the exact right length and gel the hell out of it? Still pulls me, a haver of long hair, out of the show every single time she appears on screen the first time each episode. But I love it and her and forgive it, of course. It only annoys me just enough to write about

Right?!?!!!

I would notice it just about every episode, think 'grrr' and then put it back in the 'suspend your sense of disbelief or you'll never enjoy anything' box and moved on.

Well, I guess I've always found that sort of comedy to be part of Trek. Tribbles are pretty darned goofy. And I guess I meant visual comedy as opposed to physical if that means slapstick. I wish it didn't bother you so much, because it sucks when the keepers of the keys do things that goes against something you love.

I think this ties with the painted beach ball.

I don't mind the shell on the Minbari, but it drove me up the wall after she became half human because her hair. Made. No. Sense. None.

Clearly I'm in the minority but I love him. I think he brings some great physical comedy.

I think you're right about Kirk. The representation of women is a bit ... antiquated.

Thank you, and yours is excellent as well. You've outlined a lot of what I've been thinking. I think you're on to something with the folks who grew up with TNG and the series that followed as opposed to TOS. It would be very difficult for me to accept someone else playing Picard or Data. And, really, the reason I

Wow. That is ... uhm, yeah. I was sure a Doctor Who alien would win this, but I don't think I can fathom a more perfect intersection of prop maker apathy and general obliviousness.

I yelled at the television "nooooooo!" when it flashed the two week break. I get excited that it's Monday because there will be a new Defiance!

Oh, me too, all the way. I was 10 when TNG premiered and Wesley was my very first tv crush. I even joined his fan club!

I loved that show! But I think it would need a new name.

Take my money now! Seriously, this is a fantastic idea. It was such a wonderful show that really understood what it could do with the sci-fi medium. I now want this to happen so very badly.
