West fading history as untamed wilderness? haven't been to the west have you? I live right in the middle of it and can be in the middle of nowhere in less than 20 minutes with nothing from horizon to horizon.

Swype, hands down. Every other keyboard has copied it's 'swipe to type' feature, but it's got additional tricks like swiping above the keyboard to insert a capital letter that just makes it more refined than others, IMHO. If Swiftkey did this, I'd go with that.

I try to take anything that prides itself in it's skepticism with the same grain of salt I do with alternative health folks who really heavily on the naturalistic fallacy. Self-described skeptics will often wave off anything labeled "natural" or "alternative" as snake oil and then go searching for evidence to support

Actually, I'd argue fewer people probably have CD drives now, thanks to the rise of ultrabooks. The optical drive is declining.

Somewhat on topic, kinda off... But why do even good, useful, sometimes required, and highly recommended apps still come with toolbars and other crap that will destroy your computer (unless you're smart enough to manually uncheck the option during install). Or come from download sites where it's somewhat impossible

Do we really need to call them apps? Aren't apps something that phones, tablets, macs, and now Windows 8 (shudder) use to give us no control over anything? I would call these programs. I may be wrong, but I consider the 2 very different. Apps are essentially locked down programs meant to be used on locked down devices
