Yeah, there’s not really a good solution I can see (other than not shutting down the government over a temper tantrum cause you didn’t get the toy you wanted). I just tend to think congress missing pay checks would hurt the “good guys” trying to fix things way more than it would someone like Mitch McConnell.

This is appealing in theory, but I worry in practice it would ensure that only the independently wealthy could be congress members. Like, AOC or even Biden probably could’ve never even attempted to run for congress if it was that economically unstable a proposition.

Not to mention committee memberships by house minority party members are largely worthless to the party at-large, so the GOP doesn’t lose anything of value by doing this.
