Wasn’t that all recent though? He’d gained weight and some mean kids started picking on him? That’s just normal teen behavior. It’s not nice, but it’s normal.

I mean, that would have been better than prison but he didn’t need a mental institution OR prison. Neither. He had some special education classes and I would say he needed more community outreach and resources, but definitely not a mental facility or prison.

I’m a real sports girl, so I love Deadspin. It’s hit or miss in the comments, but generally ok. And funny.

The real difference - on both pages - is IMO not that there are more jerks, but that we’ve lost so many valuable contributors who also tended to have kinder voices.

Many regular Jalopnik and Gawker commenters have some kind of axe to grind about the supposed awfulness of Jezebel commenters. Weirdly, I never see this behavior on Deadspin.

The mood has changed, I would agree. One thing that stays the same is that even the most benign and cross-posted Jalopnik post will have some commenter saying how the headline would be reworded if it were on Jezebel. I read some cool car article, start the comments, realize where I’m at and just shake my damn head.
