I agree with you. The school should respond. Suspension is extreme but...I'm okay with it, I guess? Arrest is outrageous, though.

My first reaction was “hey, we’d take this a lot more seriously if the recipient was a girl!” then I remember that I was once a girl in junior high who got groped just about daily and no one ever did anything to stop it so...I stopped talking.
I think what she did was wrong and she totally should have been disciplined by the school. I don;t think anyone should be able to invade someone elses personal space without their say so. Her arrest is a little extreme though.
Yeah, you’re absolutely right. The girl would have been told not to wear such tight clothes and the boy would have been given in school detention or something.
Bull fucking shit. I reported boys grabbing my tits MULTIPLE TIMES to my school and they fucking got detention. So no, this is not okay but don’t act like boys don’t get away with this bullshit EVERYDAY.
We need special prosecutors for sex crimes. If they can hire defense that is experienced in discrediting witnesses, there should be prosecutors specially experienced in preparing these witnesses, and presenting to the jury the stats and science we know about how sexual assault victims *actually* behave. This cartoon…
Yep. And I’m pretty grossed out by the number of “Well, what did she expect, the slut?” comments here, too. Hard not to engage the trolls.
I want to tell her that she owes no one any apologies, and she is OWED apologies. First, by Mister Scumbag himself, then by the Crown prosecutors who messed up this case.
My memory sucks even on a good day. I can’t imagine how much worse it would be if I had to remember stuff from a traumatic, violent episode in my life.
Exactly. The Crown did a terrible job preparing these women as witnesses. And now a serial assaulter gets away scot free because of it. Wretched work,Crown.
I’m sure the victims thought (naively, perhaps) that the case would focus on whether or not he assaulted them, and whether or not he obtained consent.
Especially given the fact that they were very much the ones on trial, as Ghomeshi didn’t even take the stand. The case was entirely about how shitty they were as victims. They were hung out to dry.
Yup, the prosecution is at fault, not the women, they should have been fully briefed, questioned to ensure full disclosure and given tools to deal with difficult lines of questioning.
She has felt tremendous guilt, she added: “After I testified, I felt like I had to go up to every person in the world and apologize for ruining the case.”
The prosecution fucked this one up. The women should have been told all of this way before the trial. That the women are now saying that they only learned about the power of “post-incident conduct” during the trial is a complete indictment of the failure of the prosecution. The prosecutors should have been sitting…
As much as I’m happy Boesveld created a website to help women understand what it would be like to go to court to defend themselves in a sexual assault case, its sad that there has to be such a website
I’m fine with saying, “Fuck this judge.” Not for the verdict, but for using his bully pulpit to suggest that the real problem is that we don't automatically disbelieve women who report being raped 100% of the time, instead of only the great majority of the time like we do now.
Regardless of whether Amazon treats women fairly, I think it’s safe to say that they treat their warehouse employees terribly. And given that women and men are filling very different jobs at the company, I’m not sure how impressive it is that women and men in equivalent jobs earn similar amounts. One of the ways in…
Clearly a woman can’t have been assaulted unless she’s crying and whimpering in the witness stand. And everyone knows that if a woman gives consent once, that covers every sexual encounter between her and a man, even retrospectively.
As usual, women pay the price for sex. As usual, men can beat and denigrate women but the women are the ones who are on trial. Fuck this judge, fuck the media, and especially fuck that asswipe Ghomeshi.
