I don't see how it isn't a medical issue for the mother. Stopping breast feeding cold turkey puts the mother at risk for clogged milk ducts which can rapidly become mastitis, a pretty debilitating infection of the milk ducts. Imagine the worst flu you ever had, plus excruciating pain in your breast.

Couldn't that be potentially painful for mom, if she was already producing enough milk to meet a certain demand before she got locked up?

Who even says they had to store it? At minimum, let her pump and dump since not allowing her to pump at all greatly inhibits her chances to breastfeed after she gets out.
