Fred was supposed to reemerge through Illyria and "share" the body with her, but they didn't had time for it because, well, they decided that "Angel", even if it had become a better show than "Buffy", couldn't live without it.

Fringe is officially more about characters than plotline. The plotline is there, it keeps us wondering, imagining, but what keeps us watching, and most of all caring, is the characters.
