This was my requirement. I’ll change my name, but only if your last name is better.
One solution is I believe, called the “braided system” (I could be remembering wrong; my anthropology/sociology courses were a good long time ago); the mother passes her family name to her son, and the father passes his name to his daughter.
I think it is different when you’re the mom. I have friends who have a daughter and when the father travels alone with the daughter and crosses the US border he makes sure to carry a letter with him that she wrote saying it’s okay because he gets asked. She has never, ever needed to when she took their child out of…
I wonder if it’s different when you’re the mom, because nobody has ever seemed suspicious of me. I even travel alone with my kids several times a year and the airlines don’t ask for any ID or birth certificates or anything. Maybe they would if we went international. Definitely schools and hospitals have never cared.
See, my mother kept her surname and gave it to all her kids, and my step-dad has sometimes admitted that he wished he’d changed his surname to ours when he married her because, although he knows it isn’t true, sometimes he feels like he isn’t part of the family unit. He says it’s been particularly noticeable to him…
I don’t really see how it’s less patriarchal to keep a name that was automatically bestowed upon me by my philandering father.
ETA: Although I do agree that Batman would be a good choice.
Nope, that seems reasonable. I know a couple who both hated their surnames, so they invented one for their kid.
We hit 16 years in a week. The more time I spend with him, the less I can imagine ever not wanting to be with him. I guess we are lucky. And also I legit married the best person in the world.
I feel you. ive been with my partner for almost 10 years and feel like life is just getting started. I couldnt imagine it without him :/
I’m lactose intolerant and it does NOT stop me from eating cheese. It may make me uncomfortable and I can’t eat it everyday but a life without cheese is no life at all.
I feel like I might die if I don’t see it now. I wish I hadn’t known of it at all.
Yep. Disordered levels of food restriction.
I wish people would just own being childish/picky eaters instead of acting like their preferences have any basis in some kind of medical diagnosis.
Yeah, gabardine refers to the weave of the fabric, not the fiber content. It’s literally an impossible thing to be allergic to.
I am trying to figure out what she actually eats...
My ex was a raving asshole who didn’t want me to work. I did some volunteer stuff, which caused me to be offered a really awesome super cool job, doing something I’d always dreamed of. He didn’t want me to take it, telling me that if I took it I’d have to leave. I called the priest who married us and he listened to me…
Teachers wouldn’t be walking at graduation anyway.
They also look super tacky. For some reason, I’m really grossed out by super long nails.
In my opinion he’s never had one. I don’t understand why people think he’s so attractive with that crazy weird nose and mouth.
