Not even accounting for the fact that gluttony is the one culturally accepted vice women are allowed to engage in. Sex? She’s a slut. Drinking? So sloppy. Smoking? The Marlboro man says it’s too masculine. Weed? What are you, a bro?

I also like the subtle slight at Kiera Knightly. She might have a “runway model” body but she does not have a “swimsuit model” body. It’s like the guys who want a cookie for liking Kate Upton because she has large breasts and a thicker waist.

AND it's ignoring that fact that America is already fat - not fat and fabulous (yet)... Just fat and sad :-(

I agree. And if we’re being fair, the low sales of SI for Women and struggles of women’s professional sports leagues suggest that women also have a limited interest in women as athletes.

Hurrah!

I can’t believe that anyone looking anything like Rousey, Graham or Clauson could be ashamed of their body...

Fact: 99% of the people making that point are overweight males.

And it makes no sense. By that logic, we should all be size 6 and under because that’s pretty much all we see. A positive image of an average or even very overweight woman isn’t going to make everyone go ‘fat is fabulous’ overnight.

It looks like a pose designed to emphasize her ample bust (the societally approved “good” thing about a larger woman) and hide the rest of her (the “flaws”). I personally think SI, and all “body positive” campaigns can fuck off. How about we stop reducing women’s value down to whether society has dubbed them

“Congratulations, SI, for expanding your view of what beauty is, but why don’t we all expand our view of what women are?”

tbh, i thought they were all models before reading the article. i didn’t even realize two were plus size. also a size 14 is a lot different on someone who is 5'11

Man, that Rousey is a real knockout.

Well to be fair, it’s not totally unheard of that males decide unilaterally that their wummin should get one, you know...

About half of the people who replied got it. I assume the others thought I was referring to the wives/mistresses of the founding fathers.

Not passive aggressive. Aggressive.

I like this woman’s approach; if they want Big Government sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If they’re gonna govern by Sharia, let’s be equally absurd and draconian for both sexes.

That is a rad story. I bet if Ellen heard it, she would be proud.

“He pushed the repeal of DADT through (thanks Clintons!)“

Not to detract from your general point, but this is a really bad understanding of the nature of presidencies. In 1992 Bill Clinton directly campaigned on totally ending the ban on gays in the military, along with a universal health care plan. When universal

Ellen is interwoven for me with my own coming out. My parents were both fans of her sitcom, and had been watching up to that point, and I knew it. I, fourteen, read in the newspaper about how she was a lesbian, and was coming out on her show, and how big a deal this was.

I get what he’s saying because Ellen was visible in a way no one in Hollywood had been up until that point. Still, as humble as he is, he’s been an amazing president for LGBT individuals (and the country at large, I think.) He pushed the repeal of DADT through (thanks Clintons!) and refused to defend DOMA (thanks
