I was never a prolific commenter, but with this new design I just can’t be bothered anymore. The site’s layout is extremely unappealing, articles move off the main page too fast, it’s essentially impossible to have a conversation, you have to reload the entire page to see new comments, there’s barely any nesting so…
Just plain old not true. I’ve made comments that immediately disappear when I refresh the page, because they have not been starred or replied to. So yes, maybe my new comment was at the top for a second, but it’s disingenuous to say comments are sorted by “new”
Seriously, NOTHING improved with this migration. Not a single thing is better now than it was before.
Going back won’t happen. Kinja’s the company-owned backend for all Gizmodo sites. We’re stuck with it.
I asked this question over on AV Club After Dark and it basically has to do with the Kinja layout, both with the site and the comments. Bluntly, the site is still a mess even with these improvements. Kinja’s page layout is inferior to Disqus and the chronological ordering of the articles makes it difficult for those…
I’m not even sure how live threads would ideally work on here. Without being able to sort by “new” everything after 100 comments is just shouting into the void.
Because you have to click “Read More” or “see More” or whatever to even see conversations you want to comment on. As much as Disqus had problems, you were at least able to scroll down and see comments you might want to respond to. Kinja gives you, like, one comment plus its replies. If it’s not a winner, then there’s…
This. I’m grateful for Kinjamprove, but I really want to be able to sort by time.
So, I’m completely disheartened about the decline of the commentary on this site. Especially after the dearth of participants last night. No amount of Kinda updating will fix the AV Club.
Comment sorting is even more important. Depending on how old or new a story was and how many or how few comments there were, I was prone to using all three settings on Disqus, newest, oldest or best.
You can get nested comments with the Kingamprove plugin (seems like Kinja could implement this themselves, but whatever).
Nested. Comments.
The commenting system is still clunky and not user-friendly and very unfun.
I think any young American white actress who gets awards and nominations at an early age are immediately labeled as bad because hipsters can’t bear to think anybody can like something that they didn’t discover first.
Looks like next year’s harvest will be even better.
Came for the takes and left with the hottest, scorching take...so thanks for that
It’ll be Brie Larson’s turn to get this nonsense around 2019 by my estimations
The backlash is real. It’s cool to call her a bad actress now.
She’s been good in pretty much everything she does bar the X-Men films that aren’t First Class. Plus she’s not even 30 yet, she’s got a potentially long career ahead of her. Scarlett Johansson did about three good films out of the dozens she was in from 2004 to 2011, and I’d still call her a very good actress at her…
