I was generally worried about this, but then read an opinion that celebrities and national personalities (athletes, etc.) making fun of this will constantly remind people that they can take a comment from the White House seriously.

In your amateur crime-buffing, have you seen this in international cases? My real question is: how well do insurance companies fare investigating these claims in a small, non-first world community?

My only question was how well they would be able to investigate in a small community in the DR. I know that if this were in, say, Kansas City, the insurance company would have no problem.
