It is smart, but it’s there because they were smart enough to make it part of the company’s name. Honda in North America is actually “American Honda Motor Company, Inc.”, which is a subsidiary of Honda Motor Company, Ltd.

There are many examples of the US using non-state actors to effect its goals (usually related to foreign policy):

That’s exactly what it is. There was a report that showed 78% of Tesla’s operating cash flow came from customer deposits. That is not good at all.
