This is the best advice in my opinion. Seasoning over a factory seasoned pan is always doomed for failure, which is what many try to do.

The flaking tends to happen when factory ‘pre-seasoned’ pans aren’t stripped first, and then you try to season over the preseasoning(which in lodge’s case, is really horrible). For me, squats are ‘as low as you go’ until you rotate your hips, and remove the strain from the legs and place it on the lower back..right before there is your depth. I think as stabilizing muscles strengthen, the ability to go lower without compromising the lower back improves.
