Yup, I totally get that. I guess it isn’t really that strange that our language is woven with religious references, because we’ve been surrounded by it our entire lives. And of course, sometimes there’s just comedy in defiantly using a religious reference as an atheist.

Like I said elsewhere, I surprise myself when a “Jesus Christ” sneaks out (accompanied by a hard eye roll) so the cultural artifact description makes sense. I’m just saying the combination of words I’ve heard said by others a thousand times, without really thinking about their deeper meaning.

Makes sense! Very little in the world is as black and white as “I don’t believe in that anymore, period.” I certainly have habitual phrases, and I’ve found myself expressing contempt by saying “Jesus Christ” and rolling my eyes more than a few times in my life. Even I think that’s weird.
