Well, if that’s what he was referring to, there’s no disputing that. He’s right. It seemed like more of an overall indictment of their record, to me.

Overall? Like for the entire history of the team? Sure they are less than .500. They are around .490 or so. But every team in the league hovers around the .500 mark. I am not sure how that, in any way, demonstrates that the team has been “losing for a long time”?

There have been many coaches fired after a full on winning season. Schottenheimer, Knox, Buddy Ryan, John Fox. There’s a lot of criteria that go in to a firing.

Now when you say that, when you say “do what they’ve done for a long time.... lose”.. are you referring to the fact that they have more wins than 60% of the league over the last 10 years? Or is there some other metric to “losing” that you are bringing in to play?

It’s tricky semantics, and I had to read it a few times. I think the phrase usually associated with the word is “above reproach” which means everything was pretty much perfect. He said “beyond reproach”. Reproach itself means displeasure or disappointment. So he’s saying their behavior was beyond disappointing.

No it’s not the norm. They knew they were going to do some illegal and stupid things, so they removed the plates to minimize the chances of being identified.
