Three seasons”?! Someone’s being very generous there.

I think it was a more general commercial opportunity play.  Loads of the merch that came out along with the movie was pod-race related.

The show was on a par with Heroes in how it burned so brightly and burned out so fast.

Sarah Sherman with Colin Jost is never not funny.

The Space Babies episode was silly but fun.  The Beatles episode was silly but horribly self-indulgent (especially the cringeworthy last 5 minutes).  Gatwa has potential but I fear we may be in for another good Doctor with bad stories.

With Hannah Waddingham.

Quite the opposite - I’m surprised they didn’t win the competition via the popular vote. For example they got maximum points in the UK’s audience vote. The key to Eurovision is having a sizeable block vote of some description. Not every Jewish person in Europe will have voted for Israel but given the build up, I’d

We’re at that point in the cycle where the majors want to lose heads, which will lead to a boom in independents, many of whom will be doing contract development deals with the majors.  Then in 5 years time the majors will start buying them up again.  Rinse and repeat.

It’s the modern version of “we should buy a bar/pub!”

I think that series stood out as something more akin to the old AV Club.  I must admit I’m surprised how recent it was.

This sounds profoundly unpleasant.

You should see him in Boys From the Blackstuff.  Incredible series that gave a voice to people that were being erased from society by the Thatcher government.

Tell me about it. My visit coincided with a mate visiting from NZ.  We’d arranged to meet up on the Monday but I ended up just bumping into him on Queen Street on the Sunday.

I did Brisbane for the first time this year and really enjoyed it. Top tip from me would be having breakfast at Joey’s on Kangaroo Point with a fantastic view of the city.

As mentioned earlier I love both Bonfire of the Vanities and A Man in Full, but I resisted buying I Am Charlotte Simmons because I couldn’t imagine that he’d do a good job of the subject matter.

So this is an actual real movie that you’ve actually seen?

I loved the book (as I did Bonfire of the Vanities) so will give this a look. My one hope is that it addresses my one issue with both books - the endings are very weak.

The classic UK model follows the Fawlty Towers principle - two short seasons and done. As a result, third seasons are often disappointing, ill-judged affairs that taint the legacy of the show.

Those films were great - especially the second one (although the first one deserves credit for leaning into the fact that everybody hated Scrappy). They have lots of lines that my family still use to this day.
