Herman the Vietnam War cheerleader?

I generally use these quotes to emphasise both their musical brilliance and their cultural impact.  Just ignore the one from Putin.

Was it his appearances on the Sooty Show?

Hi Dick!

Kind of true, but he did get his way sometimes.  Unfortunately one time was when he fought to keep Lennon’s Run For Your Life on Rubber Soul.

I will completely unironically argue that they are underrated by the general public.  Many people love them without quite realising how mindblowingly good they were.

Maybe that’s true if you have a better ear for these things. I think most of my Lynne-dar is from the backing vocals you hear on all his 80s work with the Travelling Wilburys and their constituent parts.

I’m interested to see whether this will sound like a Beatles song (as Free as a Bird did) or like a John Lennon song that the others happen to be backing him on (like Real Love). By and large I think Jeff Lynne managed to resist the temptations that frequently make songs produced by Jeff Lynne very easily

I’m just trying to work out at which point in this conversation I will be suckered into responding to somebody being ironic.

Yeah - that would be the one that I’d quite happily watch again, and it might be interesting to watch it knowing the twist, but they kind of wrap all that stuff up in the closing scenes anyway. So I agree, I’d mostly watch it just because it’s a great film.

I have seen precisely none of these films twice.  There are one or two in there where I think maybe I’d pick up on a lot more if I watched it again.  But too many of them are high concept films that just aren’t all that engaging.

That’s really sad.  I watched the Pentavarate or whatever it was called, which was…not good. But it was meant as a celebration of local news reporters, and at the end of the last episode they showed a clip of a young Mike Myers’s with a local Canadian news reporter, and it was one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen.

We had that in the UK. The theme tune is a proper ear worm. So much so that every time anybody says “maybe tomorrow” in any context, I feel compelled to reply “I’ll want to settle down.”

Do we have a new winner for typos in a single paragraph?

Maybe they have the same understanding of write-offs as David in Schitt’s Creek.

I’ve never been so gobsmacked by a movie’s effects as I was by T2.  It felt like a massive leap forward.

I was so excited about Sky Captain.  But for all its technical innovation, the film itself sent me to sleep.

I don’t think anybody is saying Schofield has done nothing wrong, but you’d have to be pretty naïve to think there isn’t a strong whiff of homophobia in the media coverage.

Holmes is a bitter sad man who has found his natural home on GB News.
