I think what we have here is a timeline of what is considered unacceptable behaviour towards women, evolving past Chase-level behaviour in the 70s, and past Murray-level behaviour in the 80s.

Somebody who worked on Ghostbusters 2 posted in the comments thread on a recent Guardian article about Murray, saying how great he was. But the one specific story he told to illustrate his view made Murray sound a complete dick.

Betteridge’s Law of Headlines applies. If a headline is written as a question that may be answered yes or no, the answer is no.

Possibly my favourite show ever.  Certainly the show I am most evangelical about.

She was 24 when it started, which is younger than (for example) all of the Derry GirlsAnd if you’ve never watched it, you should. Particularly the first two seasons.

He’s also helpfully forgetting that it’s not that long ago that the BBC commissioned a desperately unfunny sitcom, starring a certain John Cleese, called Hold the Sunset. And then gave them a second series despite the wretchedness of the first series.

I enjoyed it as well. I was worried early on when the CGI looked shockingly bad, but once they got on the boat I was lost in the world they’d created. These films are a big challenge because lots of people who would be attracted to it, already know the basics of the plot, so you have to accept that the key is doing it

it’s just decades past any sort of relevance”

The first episode of season 3 is worth it for the police station scene alone.

Amusingly Cleese pointed out at the same time that Monty Python wouldn’t get commissioned by the BBC today because it was “Six white men, 5 of whom went to Oxbridge”, without thinking about why they did get commissioned in 1969.

And yet it’s still more popular than Murdoch’s attempt to corner the same sad market.

Now playing

During the first Covid lockdown the actresses who play Erin and Orla did this video.

I frequently make the point that Kenan is over-rated but the timing of his “Elon Musk” snap in the cold open was a thing of beauty.

Because the vast majority of black Britons are from a Caribbean family background. You could argue for a different or better term but historically that has been the one in common use that people understand.

If anybody is reading this who has not watched Derry Girls, stop reading this and go and watch Derry Girls.

I’m a Brit and quite a bit older, but from an Irish Catholic background, so I knew a fair bit about the peace process, but until watching this hadn’t really appreciated the dilemma for the kind of people who had always been opposed to the violence. It was absolutely fantastic, and I’m welling up again here just

But do you hate ABBA?

The blackboard on which they recorded all the ways Protestants and Catholics are different at the start of season 2 is now in the Ulster Museum.

You will not be well-liked!

You won’t be disappointed!  The cameos promised above are indeed unbelievable, and the final episode is just wonderful.
