I can’t speak to who Hardwick’s fans are now. I abandoned ship when Dykstra’s essay came to light. Her experiences rang true for me (as they did for many), plus his friends didn’t stand by him publicly, and AFAIK have made no moves in his direction, despite AMC and NBC ostensibly “clearing” him.
