So my students often have ...unique names and many have nicknames. Most teachers flat out refuse to use the nicknames because they “might be gang affiliated” but frankly these kids are in high school. They’re old enough to pick their own damn name.

It was a cool job but now I’m a high school teacher in Chicago. Fewer deaths but they hit you harder. Seeing the kids grow from the start of ninth grade on makes it all worth it though.

I mean like any job there are ups and downs. It’s definitely cool to see the animals and know you’re helping but it’s a lot of cleaning and a lot of death (made worse by the fact my boss was an alcoholic who would bring animals from the vet and stack them with the empty boxes...no one else would know they were there…
