They really sound white when white folks tell us that calling out racism is divisive.

I saw it after Korryn Gaines death. Black men went white so quickly, it was scary. They were talking about how bad our attitude is, if they were in the same situation they would have shot her too. All of a sudden they believe the police’s version of the story, which we never in other cases, because it’s been proven

I’d disagree with that. Black women hold more degrees than any other demographic but are paid way less than just about any other demographic. Black women vote for the dems and, with the recent exception of the ACA, get the least return from that party. I could go on, but the fact is America returns black women’s

Thank you. That screed of nothingness needed your corrections.

And we continue to support the very people who hurt us, much to our detriment.

Relax. We got y’all...

I think it applies to all people, including white people. White people are the apex of racist oppression bullshit, and white men are the apex of oppressive bullshit within white communities. So yeah, white men definitely look at any attempt to get out from under sexism as a threat to the white race also—they need

This is the best article I’ve seen all year. You are absolutely 100% percent right. It burns me to no end the way the community comes together when “the man” does the black man wrong. When it’s time for that same support for violence against black women......crickets.

The title of this had me let out a solid chuckle, but it’s really kind of true... Also, I feel like this applies to most cultures of color as well, eg. the machisimo culture of many Latino men, etc.

This is the one of the problems with this site (it existed with Gawker as well.) Dismissing outright a comment made by “one of the grays” is the equivalent of not talking to someone in high school cause they don’t have a seat at the Cool Kids table.

Here come all the “feminism divides the black community” ankh right dudes. (In other words to them the black community can only function when sexism is in place).

Thank you Damon. The same way that I feel like it’s much more pertinent (relevant?) when a white guy knocks out that shitty neo-Nazi, is how I feel about the fact that straight black men have to call out other straight black men to affect change.

I see your point, but I think you’re also missing the larger point as well. This isn’t saying sexual assault and domestic violence are good things. Most Black men will have the sense to say no to that. What I would point out are the more subtle things that allow the tail whippings and rapes to go on. There’s that

The notallmen crowd will have a good percentage of virtue signalers who this article actually applies too is the funny part. I liked the article, well written and nicely explained. I’m here for the laughs of the “UHHHHHH, thats not me, why would they say that about all of us” crowd.

I love everything about this!

May I also add that talking about colorism to black men is like talking about racism to white people. They just don’t get it

I can’t remember where I read that, either. I know it was somewhere on Twitter, but the context escapes me—maybe after Sandra Bland?

Mela is the best. She is a solid 80% of the reason I haven’t deleted Facebook.

Yep sadly when you mention this to many black men the response is pretty much the equivalent of “All Lives Matter” and they tell you about that time he read about a woman beating up her boyfriend or the lady teacher that was sleeping with male students and that girl that made him cry in 5th grade.

I couldn’t find a lie anywhere in this piece.
