Weird that you had to even show up. I know ever court is different, but my wife just checked “Nursing Mother” on the form you mail back and they said, “Thanks, we’ll try you again in a couple years”.
To be fair, his testosterone was high because he just came from cross-fit.
I did the same thing. I had an infant and my husband was deployed. Childcare would have been an issue.
Exactly. The Impossible Whopper I tried was just as bad as a regular Whopper.
I manage a Burger King, and our vegans at least asked/read the description of the damned thing.
But if you dont breastfeed you get "you are poisoning your baby!!!" (Not hyperbole, literally been told that). They want you to exclusively breastfeed but make it almost impossible to do at work, so that you'll stay home.
I had to pump while on jury duty, in an empty office in the municipal building and no place to clean up except the public restroom. The jury organizer person I asked about where to pump looked at me like I had a third arm growing out of my forehead.
It’s a closed, hospital-grade system, so all you need are your flanges and bottles to hold the milk. There is no way for milk to get into the pump and cross contaminate with another person’s milk.
due to the fact that we live in a society that at once underscores the all-importance of breastfeeding while treating the need to express milk as a freak event.
Any time anybody tells me that cutting out a single thing will make depression “go away” I am pretty sure that person is making shit up.
It’s a Medela Symphony, a $2,000 hospital-grade pump that is a closed system. It doesn’t need to be cleaned. The people that use it need to bring in their own clean tubes and bottles; the pump is just the mechanism to extract the milk and no milk enters the system.
I’d like to take this moment to call out a great pumping spot in NYC that requires no $. Grand Central. Yup. Go to the Station Master’s Office (relatively easy to find), show them your pumping gear, and they’ll take you to a clean, locked room that has what you need. This includes a mirror at the right height to make…
The struggle is real. My daughter’s employer is “working on” setting up space for her, but until then they tell her to use the bathroom (!) or the break room(!!). Her response is to try and work shorter shifts and just wait until she gets home. Ugh.
Great article. I worked for a Fortune 50 while exclusively pumping for 8 months- I was able to do so because my team’s HR partner trained the people leaders on the laws protecting me; provided me a safe, locked room with lockers, sinks, fridges, tables, chairs, and dimmable lights made exclusively for mothers to book…
It *is* a shame that access to some of these spaces comes at a premium price, it’s great to see their growing presence in any form. I had my first baby almost a decade ago, when lactation spaces were even less common than they are now. As someone who travels fairly regularly for work, I have pumped in many public…
You can’t even say the word vagina and you want people to believe you’re not easily offended? Grow up!
It’s a zaghareet, a Middle Eastern ululation (Shakira’s half Lebanese). Sometimes the person doing it will hold their hand just above their lips to hide the tongue motion. But that’s how you make the sound.
Loved it! Of course some people will be upset because they shook what their mama gave them and how dare they do that when children were just previously watching grown men in tight pants run around a field and violently hit eachother.
Look at all this bullshit; easily three times the work and effort it would take to just STUDY FOR THE DAMN TEST.
