I think one of my favorite ideas for a long time is to have a block of text that you remember really, really well. Like an opening quote for a book or poem (or movie!). For instance, I'll use The Raven:

We use them to save the president from hard hit areas of disaster, of course...

Absolutely, and please don't take my comment as a defense of Yahoo's actions here (I am firmly against software patents, and don't believe in Imaginary Property). I just hate equating FB with the entire internet...

Facebook is NOT the web.

The face in insidious reminds me of a particular nasty friend from 1973...

Oh man I forgot all about this bit. You sir, just made my day!

I did something similar in concept by attaching my cam to a twisted string that was thrown up over the branch of a cypress tree, then hoisted up. As it was hoisted, the twist in the line caused it to spiral around quite a bit. Interestingly, the soundtrack from world of goo seemed to match up to the video length

Oh man, yes!

"Indulge me" stuck out for me as Tyrell says the exact same thing to Deckard when he suggests that Rachael be tested on the V-K...

Was the book "Strange Stories and Amazing Facts"? Because that has been my go-to restroom reading material for years, and my copy from the late 70's is still around. If I recall correctly, in the book they posited that the hole may have held the british payroll for the troops stationed nearby, due to the engineering

An interesting side-note to this is that due to variations in ovens, the giant heat-sink of cast iron will regulate your oven temperature to be more consistent during baking.

I was just going to post the same link, but iirc the breakdown was that a bunch of coastal vessels (including private boats), laden with explosives, and at the hands of a marine lt. general were able to inflict serious damage to the battlegroup he was facing. Carriers are not much more than a giant target, period.

oh god yes.

Obligatory...

Shameless plug for getting more out of GIMP for photographs and retouching... (Including a few tutorials on how to use layer masks, color corrections, etc...)

I haven't finished the tutorial yet, but the best method imho for skin and blemish touchups in GIMP has to be through wavelent decompose (varying levels of high pass filtering, allowing you to modify features based on size). See here:

I am forced to concede to this reference in big, big way. Hear hear!

Actually, I believe the term "Muppet" is an amalgamation of "Marionette" and "Puppet", not Mop+Puppet...

Reminds me of this:
