I rented an Expedition EL while in Florida last year. Averaged 20 MPG the whole week, mixture of highway and side roads. So not too bad all things considered.
The SUV craze will probably last 2 years at best. People freak out over a tiny change in gas prices.
These “inefficient” SUVs, as you call them, get low-to-mid-twenties MPG wise. Just about the same as hot hatches.
