Yeah, I quit because it’s too expensive. I had Dash Pass, but I didn’t use it enough to warrant the $10/month, and without it, the delivery fees are completely ridiculous. Now I stick to places close enough for me to go pick up food.

It’s insane to think that people are paying a premium on fast food plus a surcharge for delivery, then waiting up to an hour for cold, soggy food.
We never got delivery because we lived in the country too far out even for pizza.
A friend of mine got a creeper. She’s scared to use the delivery apps now.
Yeah I’ve never been a big delivery person, but I tried a couple times during the big 2020 lockdown and, well, let’s just say Mexican food doesn’t travel well. But it was worth it because they could deliver a margarita also. I haven’t done it since (besides pizza, obviously) because those delivery fees are insane,…
Anything that kills those extortionist delivery service apps is progress.
I used to order delivery from Sweetgreen and other local places frequently, but after consistently terrible experiences -- food getting lost, getting the wrong order, drivers just giving up and going home -- plus jacked-up delivery/convenience fees, I’ve almost entirely given up on it and just pick it up myself.
Even before the pandemic people used 3rd party delivery apps. Some of the food just gets dropped off in front of the house. Sometimes they go to the wrong house. Sometimes they give you the wrong food.
That’s insane. Even if you are getting doughnut and breakfast sandwiches all around.
Not even slightly surprising. Deliveries cost so much more, which was worth it during Covid, but not so much any more.
I assume like most people, if there was a $1.50 delivery/convenience fee and then tip, sure, that’s fine. But an $11 delivery fee on top of tip for a $13 plate of pasta from the place down the street seems insane.
Delivery takes too long. Grubhub driver’s take multiple orders all at once and prioritize based on tip. Grubhub+ which anyone has Amazon Prime also has now gives a significant credit back for doing pick up. Uber offers priority delivery for a fee but I’ve had drivers still blatantly take other orders before delivering…
It is quite a bit more to have your food delivered than just go to get itself. That is even before having to tip the driver.
Unsurprising. I grew up never getting delivery, my mom kind of always instilled in us the idea of going out getting your food. Even making the trip to pick up a pizza or some drive thru part of the evening dinner or night out. So in adulthood i still just always go and pick up my order in person. In fact i get like…
Let it die. Let it return to the way it SHOULD be - a restaurant delivering their own food, so they CARE about how their food is delivered.
I would think that the pizza chains would be in a different situation because delivery was a part of their model all along (and there’s not quite as much of a premium on pizza delivery). A lot of people who would never think of getting a burger or a bucket of chicken delivered have been ordering pizza delivery for…
Not only is the money a factor, but some of these delivery service drivers are fucking weirdos and I don’t want them anywhere near my home or family.
Article is a bit unclear if these are restaurant delivery services or third party like Uber Eats or Doordash. We used Uber Eats exactly once cause I got a $25 gift card, so we ordered or normal $23 chinese takeout, but came out to nearly $40 with all the fees and shit. I’m not surprised at all if people are using…
Simply because most utilize 3rd party services, drivers get screwed, small businesses get screwed and in many cases customers get screwed by bad service, half eaten food or smaller servings for more money.
This tracks. Just in the past three years my usual order from Dunkin’ for 3 people ballooned from just above $30 to an average of $55. Much cheaper to get it yourself, if possible.
