It’s not a grandfather fetish, it’s a short-game inheritance fetish.

Life, uh, finds a way.

It’s not about the money. Come on. It’s at least a little bit about the money. Mick Jagger, Al Pacino, a literal billionaire investor. She isn’t just dating random grandpas living on SSI.

“Definitely not about money”!

As I understand it, male fertility tends to *sharply* decline after a man turns 50 or so—it declines somewhat throughout the 40's, but it really starts to dip after 50.

She loves old famous wealthy people, let’s be real.  Highly doubt she’s ever been interested in a middle class, not famous old guy.

Three used to be a time when theatres would run double-features. I think they should bring this back now, for Oppenheimer and Barbie. You could choose the order depending on your mood.

In his mind, if shitty sequel isn’t #1 for several weeks in a row, it’s not an unqualified success. It’s not about audiences finding it — he wants a repeat of Top Gun. Delusion + ego = someone who will never truly be happy.

“his whole life is a performance”

Famous people stop evolving at the precise moment they became famous. Tom mentally lives in the 1983-1986 time period because that was a time when there were only a 2-3 summer blockbusters to choose from and high-quality television shows and streaming didn’t exist.

1) franchise movies all have identical plotlines and catchphrases. That’s what sells to devoted fans and makes money regardless of the release date.

I’m neither defending nor attacking Cruise here, but what he is doing seems so archaic. This isn’t the early 80s, where people went to few movies and the only way to know if one was any good was word-of-mouth or the local paper. Ditto for even being aware of the movie through advertising. And the theaters consequently

The fact that MI comes out a week and a half before Barbie and Oppenheimer means it will do great.

It’s weird that the summer only has room for two films now. That’s climate change for you!

Cue the right wing outrage over something that doesn’t concern or affect them in the least in 3... 2... 1...

Congrats to Logan and his partner! As someone 6 months into the process, I am jealous of his perfectly round bump, as mine currently looks like a misshapen sack of flour :-D

If I believed their outrage was genuine I’d be glad for the stress to affect their physical health. But it’s not the real kind - it’s a pleasurable performative act because cruelty is what activates their brain’s reward system.

Jeebus Chrust...hunker down ‘cuz this cover is going to send the outrage machine into supersonic overdrive...

The danger of satire is that many people—probably most people—are irony deficient and are taught to read texts exclusively at a surface level. The number of right-wingers that didn’t understand, for example, that Colbert’s character on The Colbert Report was making fun of them, is scary large.

I love Succession, but I’ll join you on one thing: A huge contingent of the fanbase are some of the most annoying TV fans outside of a Rick and Morty convention. Not because of their passion, but because a massive percentage of the audience seems to genuinely not *get* the show.
