Your wife has been through a lot. :( There have been some similar dynamics in my family, through multiple generations. I think it’s more common than most people realize. It’s just not something we talk about publicly.
My hospital also gave me good “advice” that really stuck with me. They said “Love ‘em and feed ‘em”. You can worry about everything under the sun, but at the end of the day, all you really need to do is love ‘em and feed ‘em.
