I wholeheartedly agree, but there is a lot of snark on this website, especially when it comes to musicians from that generation.

It’s too bad, because I really enjoy their music and wish they’d made more of it. I doubt there are many CCR fans around these parts, so everyone laugh at me for my boomer taste in music. For the record I’m not a boomer, I’m an elder millennial. I’m surprised AV Club reported on this at all.

My family has a rural property that I spend a lot of time at in the summer now that I WFH 100% of the time. Believe me, that’s the type of living for me. Since I work from home I rarely go anywhere outside of my house. I may exaggerate when I say I want to live in the middle of the woods, but I do want to live in a

The thing is, there aren’t always local good spots in the middle of nowhere. My wife is also a terrible copilot. She gets nauseous if she looks at her phone for more than 5 seconds in the car.

What about hobbies that require dexterity? Do they preserve it? I’m an avid guitar player, I’m hoping this keeps my fingers/hands loose and limber into old age.

I’m under no illusion that my company cares about me. That said, I have what I consider to be a great job, and a very good work-life balance.

That’s fairly accurate. As far as your other comment, I disagree. Suburbs are what they are. I live in an older suburb and have no desire to live in a McMansion neighborhood, but I’m happy with where I live. Living in a city isn’t a great option for most families. For example, I like that my kids have an actual yard

You say this, but it doesn’t apply to all. Sure the outer suburbs have a higher concentration of chains, but they all still have independent restaurants in addition to that. I also roll my eyes at the hatred for chains. They have their place. I’m leaving on a road trip with my family tomorrow. I don’t have the ability

I make what most would consider a good income and get 5 weeks of vacation per year that I actually use. By American standards I have a pretty good job. I don’t mind putting in a bit of extra effort.

I was a nerdy kid when the first exoplanet was confirmed, and I was super excited. While it seems both logical and obvious that there would be exoplanets all over the place, we couldn’t say that for sure until it was confirmed. I wonder if the discovery of exoplanets is as exciting to younger folks who have no memory

I don’t really put in many extra hours, it had more to do with the types of projects I was willing to take on.

I have not, but I have to say that my company treats me pretty well by American standards.

I agree with most of what you say, but I also think the only way to get ahead is to put in extra effort, or at least give the appearance that you are doing so. This will also highly depend on the organization or group you work for. About a year ago I got a job grade promotion (very large company) along with a heft

I’ve never heard of a fulltime job in the US that was truly 9-5 with an hour lunch, meaning a 7 hour workday. The expected hours of every office job I’ve ever had have been 8-5, 7-4, or currently 7:30-4:30. Those do include an hour for lunch.

I should have realized I was replying to someone named “snarkmuffin”, that explains a lot. I live in the Detroit area, and there are fantastic restaurants from various ethnic groups. I think the ones that probably stand out the most in the area are Middle Eastern and Greek restaurants, although there are plenty of

Only have restaurants that are bland chains? I’m not sure what suburbs you are familiar with, but this is simply not true. In my metro area various suburbs are known for having high concentrations of different ethnic groups, and there are amazing restaurants that reflect that. Beyond that there are tons of independent

This car looks amazing, and I would gladly pay the asking price. Other than the unfortunate steering column the interior looks to be in really good shape for a car of this vintage.

I do, and those people are idiots. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that though. We let our kids eat junk food sometimes, we aren’t perfect, but at mealtimes we strive to provide them with relatively nutritious options. Garbage should be a treat, not lunch. We usually make lunch for our kids, but use school lunches

Hmm, I’d prefer my thermostat not track my location at all times. I’m not a tinfoil hat person, but I tend to believe the fewer entities tracking me, the better.

I didn’t say they have no advantages, I just don’t personally have a need for one. I still don’t see the huge advantage if I do something outside of my normal schedule, as with either system I need to manually adjust it.
