The problem with bucket collectors is that everything ends up only in that one place. If you're wanting to call up some bit in Evernote (for example), you have to switch from the program you're currently working with to Evernote and do a clumsy copy-and-paste routine. I would like to see an entire OS which dispenses

mmmm Duvel :o)

An excellent book! Particularly the strategy of making an un-calendar has helped me immensely.

@Online News Guy: In fact, fall is probably the best time for planting shrubs and trees for cold climates, as well. Just be sure to give the plants a thorough initial watering and continue to regularly water during any dry periods of winter and beyond.

@MrRainMan: Depending upon your particular needs, either Scribus (page layout) or Inkscape (vector graphic editor) could do the trick. Both are free, open source, and very well done.

@MonkeyBiz: Duvel is Belgian, not American. (It also happens to be my favorite beer.)

It's a German service so simple-fax.de had little chance of making the top five, but for anyone else in Germany, I can recommend it highly. There are no monthly fees for outgoing faxes — just a 7 eurocent charge per page for most national numbers. You just have to transfer enough money beforehand to cover your

@Duckbrain30: I don't really know the technical details, but I think faxing using the Windows fax service depended upon a protocol found on dial-up internet connections. The devices used were even called "fax modems." AFAIK most broadband DSL and cable internet systems don't support this protocol.

I have a special bracket from an office furniture store which suspends my computer from the bottom of my desk. It slides on a track and pivots, making access to the back a snap. Since the computer is off the floor, it stays much cleaner. Of course, the bracket cost a bit more than 2.5 euros, but it was well worth it.

For many plants — especially trees — fall is the best time to plant.

I've been unable to solve a problem regarding homegroups with my father-in-law's computers. Maybe someone could give me a suggestion?

Along this line of inspiration and motivation, I'd recommend Steven Pressfield's The War of Art.

@Merricat: Allway Sync is another one to take a look at:

My initial impression is that this is groove overkill. And is it really so helpful to have the slots running front to back?

I've suggested this previously, but a useful technique with flash is to set the exposure speed fairly long so that the existing, often warmer light has a chance to be recorded in addition to the flash, whose extremely short burst essentially functions as a fast shutter to freeze the movement. The blurred motion of the

@superflex007: Gibberish won't help you if you need to click a link to activate an account.

Something which is ubiquitous in practically every European kitchen — and deservedly so — but is almost unheard of in the US is an electric water kettle. To me it's now unfathomable to wait several minutes to just barely get a cup of water to boil in a microwave when I can bring nearly two quarts to a vigorous boil in

As wonderful as WinSplit Revolution works, I can't imagine switching to anything else.
