I’m sure there are very fine people on both sides.

i think you define a “cult” as “a group whose members i exclusively know from the TV”. Meet actual Humans, i suggest, including actual Rastafarians, Zoroastrians, and heeck, meet a north Indian Hindu or two. It might embiggen you.

We’re looking for religions, not cults.

Also ( for all its sins) the Catholic Church, as mentioned earlier is officially ok with extra terrestrials , so I’m guessing Mr Weidemann is one of those Protestants who dont consider Catholics as ‘Christians’.

Scientology is almost more like something made up to troll religion that got out of hand (probably due to Mr. Hubbard’s tax free income status)..

Scientology isn’t based on an Abrahamic faith.

The title was “friendly to the idea they exist”. not that aliens would be friendly.
Splitting hairs, a god is an alien entity form humans and not form this planet. So they should have no beef with the title of this article. ( i didnt read the article because the title was so very accurate it answered the question

I’m not sure that I agree. Why wouldn’t they assume that a supreme being created Man in his/her own image, and then another supreme beings create other races in their own images? Similarly, why wouldn’t those who believe their is a Jesus for them believe that there is a “Jesus” for other races? It seems like it

This is a more thoughtful response than some of the pros provided.  Shorter, too.

Among Abrahamic faiths and their various spin-offs, I think Mormonism is the best contender. God literally lives on another planet. He’s already an alien.

100%. They can’t get along with the people on this planet, much less another species.

Some would. Not all.

By no means a religion expert here, but it seems to me that any religion that has “[supreme being(s)] created Man in his/her own image” as a core tenet are going to be fundamentally hostile to extra-terrestrial life. Even if they accept ET, it will be fundamentally of a second-class nature, and history is pretty clear
