The Steam reviews for the game are genuinely bizarre. I actually saw more of the anti-feminist nonsense in the positive reviews (variations on “great game, but it sucks that the girls are all wearing burqas”). The negative reviews (and there are tons) were exclusively about microtransactions and grinding.

I'm tempted to grab it, but since there will be a bunch of DLC characters and stuff, I'll probably just wait for whatever complete edition they put out later, since NRS still actually does those.

same. i had no idea it was connected. considering that The Conjuring was a modern classic, its sad to see how formulaic the rest of the universe films have been and that kind of includes the sequel which wasn’t terrible but wasn’t great either. I love Joel, I even went to a taping of his Netflix show and got a picture with him after!  And I thought it was hilarious because the first time he yelled it seemed like genuine excitement and the rest were clearly him just reacting to Michelle, who came of as bitchier and lamer than usual.

Even the worst of these films has been surprisingly competent. Because the flipside of “enough jump scares and things going bump in the night for a whole franchise” is a far worse horror film that’s no fun and not scary.
