Follow-up question: How is Once Upon A Time still on?

Stormbirds, tough? Pffft... nah...

Congrats on defeating your first Thunderjaw! Always an epic encounter.

I did manage to pick up an SNES Classic after all last Friday. The major retailers in my area all seemed to get around 50 units, which was enough for anyone willing to line up by 8 am or so. My long term goal is to beat (in most cases, for a second time) all 21 games, and make a locked save state of their endings. So

Good morning, all! Wild weekend coming up— we somehow ended up hosting all of my wife’s Canadian family for Canadian Thanksgiving... for the first time... right after moving back to the States?!

Woah, Transistor is like a hushed neo-noir cyberpunk turn-based dungeon/city crawler! I was expecting a sort of VN for some reason. I thought I might finish it last weekend but instead just messed with the fighting mechanics and walked around the world a lot. Why do I keep doing this? I think as my interest in games

Whatever happens, this series must end with Mindy getting her cocaine.

So happy to see the show back - and to find there’s a way for me to catch the Tetis on TV without a cable subscription.

Perfect Blue? That movie fucked me up.

yes, nice one. its pretty slow pacing, working more like a police procedural at times than straight up horror, but it definitely works with horror motifs and is straight up gorgeous (and as you say, unique).

The only other thing I can think of is the one “Steamboat Willy” world of Kingdom Hearts II, but that hardly counts because it’s 3D. It’s pretty shocking something on this level hadn’t been attempted before, but it also seems tremendously difficult to pull off effectively.

So fucking bummed Madhouse isn’t doing S2 of OPM...

One Punch Man is basically a parody of the genre. That said, for O’Neals next article he should start getting into Zappa by listening to Weird Al’s Genius in France.

Higurashi (a/k/a When They Cry) seasons 1 and 2 might be a good start, but it presupposes some familiarity with actual anime first, otherwise you might find the tone shifts actually a little *too* difficult to sit through.

The series is paced into a series of “question” and “answer” arcs, repeatedly examining events in

Aronofsky has been stealing from Perfect Blue at least since Requiem for a Dream. He has scene for scene copies.

There aren’t many good horror anime, tbh. That being said, my favorite is Shiki. It’s a story about vampires and humans “trying” to coexist in a small town, and it really captures the sense of dread and loss that pervaded Dracula (for me, at least).

I’ve been thinking of getting this for my PC, but these kind of games are better played reclining on the couch with a controller to my mind, rather than hunched over a keyboard kinds of games (like, say, Skyrim).

Bendy is to this art style what electro-swing is to jazz imo

Shiki. Paranoia Agent is borderline and more psychological than straight horror but def worth a watch.

I watched a bit of One Punch Man. It was rather silly, I should watch more
